Mrs. Yorn Sira is 25 years old, her husband’s name is Mr. Seam Chandara. They have 2 children. Mrs. Yorn Sira lives in Ksachtob Village, Chroybanteay Commune, Prekprosob District and Kratie Province. She is a farmer and her husband is a farmer, too.
Mrs.Yorn Sira said: “When I got my first child in 2011, my husband started drinking alcohol, repeatedly smashed the plates and the phone. He hit the children and abused me. My neighbors did not like my family anymore and then the villagers and the Community Facilitator persuaded me and my husband to participate in training on Gender Concept, Child Protection, Domestic Violence and Family planning. We participated in the training and commune platform with focal people and KAFDOC. The explanations of the Commune Council, the Village Chief, Focal People and KAFDOC staff helped me, so my family could change little by little. So far I and my husband we work hard as farmers and he helps me with the house work. My family recovers, I have sufficient meals, a phone and I have a new small job as a seller. I sell ice, porridge, pancakes and baby eggs in front of my house. My family is happy and my neighbors like my family again. I ask KAFDOC to continue helping with other Domestic Violence cases, to help them change their lives like they did for my family.”
This family understands and respects the gender roles. No more domestic violence will be practiced and they also have a family plan. The neighbors are now aware of this case and she can always contact them, if she needs help. KAFDOC and the commune admires her and they encourage her family by providing incentive that follow their family plans. The commune council, the village chief and KAFDOC also encourage other unhappy families in Chroybanteay to follow her example, to make a change in their lives.
